Nippon Denki Onkyo Kabushikigaisha was founded by American visionary Fredrick Whitney Horn in 1910. A mouthful, even in Japanese, the name was subsequently shortened to Denon in 1947. The company has been involved in number of technological innovations in its long history.

It was the first company to produce single-sided disc records and gramophones in Japan, and launched the first professional-use disc recorder for the broadcasting industry, as well as a disc-cutting lathe in 1939. This technology was used to record the Jewel Voice Broadcast of Japanese Emperor Hirohito, signalling the end of the Second World War. With much of the Japanese military opposed to the decree, the record (now considered priceless) was almost stolen and destroyed before it could be broadcast.

This legacy finds its way into Denon's line of DJ products today. Its turntables, media players, mixers, and controllers are top-notch, and the 'Prime' DJ ecosystem is arguably the most powerful and fully-featured on the market (and plays well with RekordBox, Serato and Traktor). Denon is a company with not only a storied past, but a bright (and loud) future.
