Started in 1999 by Japanese company Kikutani, Mahalo is a word meaning “thank-you” or “gratitude in Hawai’ian. Mahalo ukulele's were created with the vision of providing a real, quality instrument at an affordable price. As up to that point, cheaper ukulele's had always been viewed more as "toys", with no real thought put into their actual musical playability.
The Mahalo range was initially quite modest, but grew quickly due mostly to a gap in the marketplace for quality, inexpensive ukuleles. It went on to become very popular in Japan and promptly transitioned to worldwide distribution.
Now one of the top selling manufactures in the world, Mahalo has certainly played it's part in the resurgence and popularity of the ukulele. All Mahalo uke's are designed, built and tested in house and are in keeping with their ongoing vision of producing the best value for money instruments possible.
