Distortion, Overdrive, Boost & Fuzz Pedals all live within the same realm of effects, but all offer a very unique process of achieving sound. Here at Mannys Music, we are constantly testing and looking for combinations of pedals to use in different environments.
So lets quickly breakdown what each of these pedals is… in basic terms!
A distortion pedal has a heart of destruction and is designed to completely alter and distort your sound. Perfect for heavy rock and metal a distortion pedal generally has a pedal on/off switch a varying options for tone, distortion and volume.
An overdrive pedal is designed to boost your gain, or to replicate the mildly distorted sound of a slightly overdriven tube amp. This does ultimately end up giving you a distortion effect, but has much softer clipping than a distortion effect.
Booster pedals are designed to give your guitar or bass an un-effected boost in amplification before it reaches the amplifier. Due to its components, a Boost effect should not change your guitar’s range or tone and simply send a more amplified signal to your amp. Louder, but cleaner! It can also be used push the amp into overdrive!
Finally lets talk about Fuzz. It’s fuzzy, fuzz like and very hard to describe without using the word Fuzz. Known as the Godfather of the dirt boxes, Fuzz was created to mimic the tone of a saxophone, but quickly found love in Rock. Dirty, Fuzzy and still one of our favourites here at Mannys Music.
