Fender is one of the most recognisable and iconic brands in musical instruments. With a history dating back to 1946, the brand's influence on popular music and culture is immeasurable. The company has been at the forefront of innovation in guitar design and amplification for over 60 years, with instruments that have come to define entire genres.
Leo Fender introduced the first mass-produced Spanish-style electric guitar in 1951: the Telecaster. Originally known as the Broadcaster or Esquire, depending on which pickup configuration you chose, the "Tele" was a great success. That same year, the company released the Precision Bass, so named because it used guitar-style frets. It was the 1954 unveiling of the Stratocaster, however, which would shape the sound of rock & roll, and go on to be Fender's most iconic design.
Leo himself remained with the company until 1965 and brought about many more classic designs such as the Jazz Bass, the Jaguar and Jazzmaster guitars, and the Twin Reverb amplifier. After 20 years of ownership by CBS, a small group of dedicated and passionate people took over Fender in 1985, and to this day continue to create some of the world's most high-quality guitars and amplifiers.
