Jim Marshall, a drummer, founded his small music store in Hanwell, London in 1962, which sold drums, cymbals, and accessories. Guitarists Ritchie Blackmore and Pete Townshend would often visit the store and request Marshall make guitar amplifiers to their specifications. This led to the hiring of three designers who took inspiration from the Fender Bassman to create the iconic JTM 45.
The designers made two defining modifications. Firstly, they detached the amplifier from the speaker cabinet, resulting in the formation of the recognisable Marshall "stack." Secondly, they employed higher gain components in the circuitry, causing the amplifier to overdrive and produce a high-pitched "scream" at lower volumes. It was the first in a line of high-quality amplifiers that made Marshall a household name in the music industry.
Marshall has expanded its product line over the years to include speakers, headphones, and other audio equipment, offering something for everyone, whether it's a vintage amplifier or a modern-day Bluetooth speaker.
