Christian Frederick Martin, a German-born luthier, emigrated to the United States in 1833 and settled in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, where he founded C. F. Martin & Co. The brand is now a world-renowned guitar maker with over 188 years of experience and a rich history. Known for its exceptional craftsmanship, quality, and signature sound and tone, Martin is a favourite among musicians and songwriters.
The company was the first to make guitars in the United States and is credited with several innovations, including the internal X-bracing system, the dove-tail neck joint, and the 14-fret neck. The brand's most important innovation was the dreadnought body, which produced more volume and bass and allowed the acoustic guitar to be better utilised as an accompaniment for singers. The shape is now considered the standard for acoustic guitars.
