Squier, originally known as the V.C Squier Company, was purchased by Fender in 1965. Re-emerging in 1982 as a lower-cost alternative to Fender's main line of instruments, they began to created affordable versions of iconic Fender models.
Seeing that other brands were making low-cost, decent quality copies of their main line models, Fender decided that they needed to enter the market with their own official versions of these affordable guitars. So in 1982 they re-launched the Squier brand to do just this. Previously they had produced low-cost alternatives, but never based on their iconic designs like the Stratocaster or Telecaster. Originally these cheaper Squire models were produced in Japan, but other time Fender have moved manufacturing to a range of different counties.
Over the years Squier has released some original designs of their own, but generally their main focus has been to produce more affordable versions of their sister brand, Fenders's most popular guitars and basses. At Mannys we feel that Squier guitars are a fantastic option for anyone looking for a cost conscious Fender instrument.
